Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 23

सर्वं ब्रह्मास्तु शान्तं च क्व दुःखः क्व च संशयः

sarvaṃ brahmāstu śāntaṃ ca kva duḥkhaḥ kva ca saṃśayaḥ

May all be Brahman, in peace — where is suffering, where is doubt?

The rhetorical question is the Vāsiṣṭha’s favorite form. He does not argue — he invites. “Where is suffering?” is not a denial of your pain; it is an invitation to locate it. If you examine carefully, suffering is never in the experience itself but in the identification with the experience. Pain exists; suffering is the story you tell about the pain. When the story stops, the pain remains as sensation but it no longer crushes you.
