Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 24

न मृत्युर् न च जन्म हि सत्ये नास्त्येव मृत्युः

na mṛtyur na ca janma hi satye nāstyeva mṛtyuḥ

There is no death nor birth; in truth, death does not exist at all

Birth and death are events in time, and time is a projection of mind. Consciousness is not born and does not die because it is not in time — it is the space in which time appears. This is not consolation; it is ontology. Consolation says “do not fear, you will go to a better place.” The Vāsiṣṭha says: “do not fear, because there is no one who dies.” The difference matters: one displaces fear; the other extinguishes it.
