Prakaraṇa 6 · Verse 34
देहेन्द्रियमनोबुद्धिवृत्तयः परमात्मनि । लीना न जातु भेदेन पश्यन्ति परमात्मनम् ॥
dehendriyamanobuddhivṛttayaḥ paramātmani | līnā na jātu bhedena paśyanti paramātmanam ||
The functions of the body, the senses, the mind and the intellect, merged in the Supreme Self, never see the Supreme Self with differentiation.
The multiplicity of the instruments of cognition —deha, indriya, manas, buddhi— resolves into their common substratum. They do not constitute four discrete entities, but rather four functions of a singular principle. The bheda —differentiation— that characterizes them within the empirical state is māyā: not illusion in any pejorative sense, but rather the inherent power of reality to manifest itself in multifarious ways. The jīvanmukta does not negate māyā, but comprehends it as māyā; a mirage, once recognized as such, ceases to delude.
