The teaching returns to its simplest formulation: you are the sole witness (eko draṣṭā), the Ātman whose very nature is consciousness (cid-rūpa), and there is nothing apart from you. All that seems to exist is merely a reflection in you, like images in a mirror. Chapter 13 insists that the sage’s happiness depends not on the reflections but on recognizing oneself as the mirror itself. The contentment of the jñānin is not satisfaction with the world, but the utter absence of any need for it.
