This verse restates the identity of the Self with Brahman — nirvikalpa, nirākāra, nirguṇa, and kevala — as the pivot of Janaka’s realization in chapter 14. Having recognized that desire creates the world, he now declares that the one who might desire is itself pure, non-dual awareness. If there is no second thing, there can be no acquisition, no renunciation, no acceptance, and no rejection. The verse turns the seeker’s attention away from every possible practice and back to the simple fact of being.
