Chapter 18 · Verse 51

अकर्तृत्वमभोक्तृत्वं स्वात्मनो मन्यते यदा

akartṛtvamabhoktṛtvaṃ svātmano manyate yadā | tadā kṣīṇā bhavantyeva samastāścit

In chapter 18 (Janaka’s liberation), verse 51 deepens the teaching of non-duality. The ātman is pure consciousness that remains immune to all appearance. In Advaita Vedānta philosophy, this verse of the Aṣṭāvakra Gītā reveals that freedom is inherent to the Self and requires no acquisition.
