Chapter 2 · Verse 17

न मे देहो न मे चित्तं न मे बुद्धिर्न मे मनः

na me deho na me cittaṃ na me buddhir na me manaḥ

The disciple repeats the denial of ownership over every level of the psychological apparatus: deha, citta, buddhi, and manas. Each layer is subtler than the one before, yet all are equally excluded from the true self. This is not an assertion of detachment achieved through effort, but the recognition that identification with these instruments was always mistaken. The body appears in awareness, the mind appears in awareness, even the intellect appears in awareness; none of them can therefore be what awareness itself is. The repetition of na me — “not mine” — functions as a mantra of subtraction, leaving only that which cannot be denied.
