Chapter 6 · Verse 3
आत्मा निर्विकल्पः शुद्धः सच्चिदानन्दलक्षणः
ātmā nirvikalpaḥ śuddhaḥ sat-cid-ānanda-lakṣaṇaḥ
The Ātman is declared to be without mental constructs (nirvikalpa), pure (śuddha), and of the nature of existence-consciousness-bliss (sat-cit-ānanda). For the one who knows this, not merely believes it, fear and desire lose their anchor. Chapter 6 explores the nature of being itself, and this verse establishes that the root of liberation is direct knowledge of what one already is, not the cultivation of a new condition.
