Śivasaṃhitā 3.9

This verse functions as an epistemological closure to the section on the vāyus. The knowing invoked here is not merely intellectual: vetti, from the root vid, implies direct, experiential comprehension. Whoever «knows» the body as brahmāṇḍa — literally «the egg of Brahman», the complete cosmos — is automatically purified of karmic impurities and attains the highest state.

The term brahmāṇḍa is one of Tantric thought’s most powerful metaphors: the entire universe (aṇḍa, cosmic egg) contained within the individual body. This macrocosm-microcosm correspondence (yathā piṇḍe tathā brahmāṇḍe) is the governing principle of the Śivasaṃhitā’s entire subtle physiology. The body is not a prison of the soul but a faithful mirror of the cosmos.

The promise of liberation from sin (sarva-pāpa-vimukti) aligns this knowledge with the jñāna tradition. No external rite of purification is required — only the transformative understanding of one’s own body. This integration of gnosis and embodied practice is precisely what distinguishes Haṭha Yoga from purely contemplative systems, and the Śivasaṃhitā makes the point with admirable economy.
