देहेन्द्रियमनोबुद्धिवृत्तयः परमात्मनि । लीना न जातु भेदेन पश्यन्ति परमात्मनम् ॥

The vṛttis—undulations—are the paramātman perceived from the vantage of individuality. Differentiation (bheda) is the operation of ahaṃkāra—the principle of individuation—that severs the continuity of consciousness into seemingly autonomous fragments. The jīvanmukta does not abolish the vṛttis but rather ceases to identify with them; they are like clouds in the sky: apparently in motion, though in reality it is the sky moving itself.
