Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 32
यजेदग्नौ तु विधिवत्भार्यया सह वा विना । कान्तारे विजने देशे फलमूलोदकान्विते ॥
yajedagnau tu vidhivadbhāryayā saha vā vinā | kāntāre vijane deśe phalamūlodakānvite ||
The householder must perform yajña in the sacred fire (agni), with or without his wife, in a forest solitude (kāntāre vijane deśe) with fruits, roots, and water. This describes the transition toward vānaprastha — forest-dwelling — where ritual continues but with progressive simplicity. The fire sacrifice (agnihotra) remains central even as external circumstances simplify.
