Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 62
तमेवं ब्रह्मविच्छ्रेष्ठं नित्यकर्मपरायणम् । शुश्रूषयार्चयेन्नित्यं तुष्टोऽभूद्येन वा गुरुः ॥
tamevaṃ brahmavicchreṣṭhaṃ nityakarmaparāyaṇam | śuśrūṣayārcayennityaṃ tuṣṭo'bhūdyena vā guruḥ ||
The best among knowers of Brahman, ever devoted to daily action (nityakarmaparāyaṇam), must be honored always with service (śuśrūṣayā). The goal is that the guru becomes satisfied (tuṣṭa). The guru’s satisfaction is not ego-driven; it indicates that the student’s service has created the receptive condition for transmission. A pleased guru gives the knowledge freely — this is the traditional principle of guru-śiṣya paramparā.
