The whole universe is the Ātman for the great being who knows it. In chapter 8 the topic is praise and blame, honor and dishonor, and this verse dissolves the very root of the need for recognition. If all is Ātman, who praises and who is praised? Who blames and who is blamed? The sage is not indifferent through apathy but because he finds no one separate who could be judged.
