Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 1

घेरण्ड उवाच — अथातो मुद्रायोगं वक्ष्ये योगिनां सुखसाधकम् | याभिर्युक्तो महायोगी ब्रह्मण्वेति प्रजायते ||

gheraṇḍa uvāca — athāto mudrāyogaṃ vakṣye yogināṃ sukhasādhanam | yābhir yukto mahāyogī brahmaṇveti prajāyate ||

The third upadeśa begins: Mudrā. After purifying the body with ṣaṭkarma and stabilizing it with āsana, energy is now sealed with mudrā.

The term mudrā means seal, sign, gesture. In haṭha yoga they are techniques involving body, breath, and mind to direct prāṇa.

“Becomes a knower of Brahman.” The mudrās are not mere technical curiosities; they are gateways to ultimate realization. Each seal is a path toward truth.
