Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 24
महामुद्रा महाबन्धो महावेधश्च योगिनाम् | त्रय एव प्रयोक्तव्या यथासिद्धं यथाक्रमम् ||
mahāmudrā mahābandho mahāvedhaś ca yoginām | traya eva prayoktavyā yathāsiddhaṃ yathākramam ||
Gheraṇḍa summarizes the sequence of the three great techniques. They must be practiced “in order” (yathākramam): first the seal, then the lock, finally the piercing.
“According to perfection” (yathāsiddham) means each must be mastered before moving to the next. Progress is not rushed; each stage is allowed to mature naturally.
These three practices constitute the core of advanced haṭha yoga. Everything else — other mudrās, specific prāṇāyāmas — is preparatory or complementary to this central sequence.
