Śivasaṃhitā 5.139

The surviving fragment of this verse centers on a key figure: the practitioner who dedicates himself continuously (sadā) to meditating on ājñā. The word gopitam — ‘that which is concealed’, ‘kept secret’ — does not merely describe a reserved teaching; it points to an intrinsic quality of the center itself, one that reveals itself only to those who persist in sustained contemplation.

Sadādhyāna is a meaningful compound: sadā (always, continuously) joined to dhyāna (meditation). This insistence on continuity distinguishes the described practice from occasional exercises. In classical yoga terminology, dhyāna denotes the seventh of Patañjali’s eight limbs, but here it carries the Tantric nuance of sustained immersion in the presence of the residing deity.

The injunction to keep the ājñā meditation secret (gopitam) reflects a widespread pedagogical practice in Tantric lineages: certain techniques were transmitted only from teacher to qualified disciple — not out of elitism, but because without proper preparation a practitioner might misinterpret the experiences arising from activating this center, which is associated with direct perception and higher cognitive powers.
