एष आत्मा हृदि सन्निविष्टः पुरुषं विद्धि मानुषेन्धनम् । तत्रैव तं विदित्वाऽऽत्मानं विश्वं विद्वान्विपाशिनः ॥ ६॥
eṣa ātmā hṛdi sanniviṣṭaḥ puruṣaṃ viddhi mānuṣendhanam | tatra eva taṃ viditvā ātmānaṃ viśvaṃ vidvān vipāśinaḥ
This Ātman is established in the heart. Know the Puruṣa as the fire of the human sacrifice. Knowing the Ātman there itself, the wise one liberates all.
The Ātman resides in the hṛdaya (heart/subtle space of the chest), the center of individual consciousness. The metaphor of agni (fire) appears again: the puruṣa is the fire of human sacrifice, consuming actions and desires. Knowing this inner fire is the key to liberation. For the yogī, this points to the practice of pratyāhāra and dhāraṇā in the cardiac center, where identity with the Ātman is revealed.
