Kaṭha Upaniṣad · 2.2.2
हँसः शुचिषद्वसुरान्तरिक्शसद्धोता वेदिषदतिथिर्दुरोणसत् । नृषद्वरसदृतसद्व्योमसदब्जा गोजा ऋतजा अद्रिजा ऋतं बृहत् ॥ २ ॥
haṃsaḥ śuciṣad vasur antarikśasat dhotā vediṣad atithir duroṇasat | nṛṣad varasad ṛtasad vyomasad abjā gojā ṛtajā adrijā ṛtaṃ bṛhat || 2 ||
The Mover that dwells in light, the Vasu that dwells in the intermediate space, the Hota that dwells at the altar, the Guest that dwells in the house; the one who dwells in man, in the best, in order, in heaven; born of water, born of earth, born of order, born of the mountain — the truth, the great.
This verse describes the Ātman through multiple epithets, showing its omnipresence.
Haṃsaḥ śuciṣat — the swan/wanderer that dwells in light. Haṃsa = he who exhales and inhales (ha + sa).
Vasuḥ antarikśasat — the Vasu that dwells in space. Vasu = shining, god.
Dhotā vediṣat — the Hota that dwells at the altar. The officiating priest.
Atithir duroṇasat — the guest that dwells in the house.
Nṛṣat varasad ṛtasad vyomasat — the one who dwells in man, in the best, in order, in heaven.
Abjā gojā ṛtajā adrijā — born of water, of earth, of order, of the mountain.
Ṛtaṃ bṛhat — the truth, the great. Brahman.
This verse celebrates the omnipresence of the Ātman in all forms and places.
