Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad · 2..7
य इमं त्र्यक्षरं वेदितव्यं यस्तद् वेद तद् भवत्यमृतः सत्येनैतम् परिचिनुते देवानां भागम् इव लोके
ya imaṃ tryakṣaraṃ veditavyaṃ yastad veda tad bhavatyamṛtaḥ satyenaivaitam paricinate devānāṃ bhāgam iva loke
He who knows this trisyllable that must be known, he who knows it, becomes immortal. With truth one obtains this portion of the gods in the world.
The tryakṣara (trisyllable) is generally A-U-M, the synthesis of the entire Upaniṣad. To know it is not to pronounce it mechanically but to realize its meaning: the unity of what wakes (A), what dreams (U), and what sleeps deeply (M). In our yoga practice, this reminds us that techniques are supports for understanding, not ends in themselves. Amṛtatva (immortality) is attained by satya (truth/authenticity), not performance. Obtaining “the portion of the gods” means sharing their conscious and free nature.
