Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 5

गुणज्ञं सर्वभूतेषु परार्थैकप्रयोजनम् । ब्रुवन्तं परमात्मानमृषीणामुग्रतेजसाम् ॥

guṇajñaṃ sarvabhūteṣu parārthaikaprayojanam | bruvantaṃ paramātmānamṛṣīṇāmugratejasām ||

The invocation concludes with the most significant attribute: parārthaikaprayojanam — whose sole purpose is the welfare of others. This establishes the selfless motivation (niṣkāma) that the text will identify as essential for liberation. Buvantaṃ paramātmānam indicates that Yājñavalkya reveals the Supreme Self to the ṛṣis, positioning him not merely as a scholar but as a liberator of beings — one who transmits the knowledge that frees.
