Speak truth, do not anger, give even a little when asked. With these three things, one goes to the presence of the gods.
Saccaṃ bhaṇe — speak truth: the first mandate. Sacca (truth) as the foundation of all ethical relationship. Truth not as weapon but as basis of trust.
Na kujjheyya — do not anger: the second mandate. Kujjhati is to become angry, irritated. Non-anger as constant practice, not as unreachable ideal.
Dajjā appampi yācito — give even a little when asked: the third mandate. Dāna (generosity) proportional to what one has. One is not asked to give more than one can but not to deny generosity when requested.
Etehi tīhi ṭhānehi gacche devāna santike — with these three things one goes to the presence of the gods: three simple and concrete practices: truth, non-anger, generosity. The result is rebirth in divine realms. The simplicity of instructions contrasts with the magnitude of the promise.
