Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 21

आकुञ्च्य हृदयं चैव ऊर्ध्वं वायुं विचालयेत् | ततस्तु वेधयेत्सूक्ष्मं ब्रह्मरन्ध्रं सनातनम् ||

ākuñcya hṛdayaṃ caiva ūrdhvaṃ vāyuṃ vicālayet | tatas tu vedhayet sūkṣmaṃ brahmarandhraṃ sanātanam ||

The execution of Mahāvedha: after the bandhas and retention, energy is moved upward with the intention of “piercing” the brahmarandhra — the door of Brahman at the crown.

The brahmarandhra is the subtle opening at the center of the crown, described as the exit of the soul at the moment of death. In yoga, one seeks to “open it” in life for union with the divine.

“Eternal” (sanātana) indicates that this door is neither created nor destroyed; it always exists as a potential for transcendence. Mahāvedha actualizes that potential.
