Śivasaṃhitā 1.18

Prathamaḥ paṭalaḥ — Jñāna

Sanskrit text

यस्मिन्ज्ञाते सर्वमिदं यातं भवति निश्चितम्।

Transliteration

yasminjñāte sarvamidaṃ yātaṃ bhavati niścitam|

Translation

Since by Yoga all this verily is known as a certainty, all exertion should be made to acquire it. What is the necessity then of any other doctrines?

Commentary

This verse presents yoga as transformative knowledge that grants absolute certainty about reality. The acquisition of yoga is not simple intellectual learning, but an experience that fundamentally changes the perception of existence. The certainty it provides makes all other doctrines superfluous that operate at the level of doubt and speculation.

The term yasmiñjñāte indicates the specific knowledge that arises from yogic practice. Jñāta means direct knowledge or realization, not mere conceptual information. This knowledge transforms understanding in such a way that sarvamidaṁ yātaṁ bhavati niścitam - all this becomes certain and definitive.

The final rhetorical question challenges the seeker to consider the practical efficacy of their spiritual path. If yoga provides the absolute certainty that all seekers crave, why dedicate time and energy to doctrines that cannot offer this fundamental security? This is an invitation to decisive action.
