Drinking the law in the world of merit, both penetrate into the cave in the supreme realm of Brahman. Shadow and light, thus the knowers of Brahman call them — those five fires who did not enjoy the merit.

Ṛtam pibantau — drinking the law. Absorbing cosmic order, living according to ṛta.

Sukṛtasya loke — in the world of merit. The plane reached by good actions.

Guhāṃ praviṣṭau — penetrate into the cave. The innermost depth, the heart.

Parame parārdhe — in the supreme realm of Brahman. The highest, the beyond.

Chāyātapau — shadow and light. Two complementary aspects of the same Self.

Pañcāgnayaḥ ye sukṛtaṃ na bubhujuḥ — those five fires who did not enjoy the merit. Those who did not appropriate the fruits, who transcended duality.

The Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad completes its teaching: the higher knowledge (parā vidyā) transcends even the worlds of merit, leading to Brahman Itself.
