Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 70
तस्मात्सर्वेषु कालेषु सर्वैर्निःश्रेयसार्थिभिः । गुरवः श्रुतसम्पन्ना मान्या वाङ्ग्मनसादिभिः ॥
tasmātsarveṣu kāleṣu sarvairniḥśreyasārthibhiḥ | guravaḥ śrutasampannā mānyā vāṅgmanasādibhiḥ ||
The conclusion of the yama exposition: at all times, all who seek liberation (niḥśreyasārthibhiḥ) should honor gurus endowed with śruti — with speech, mind, and all means. Niḥśreyasa — the highest good, liberation — is the goal that motivates the entire ethical discipline. The guru who possesses śruti (revealed knowledge) is the bridge between the seeker and liberation, and honoring that guru is the final yama and the gateway to the yogic practice that follows.
