Having transcended these three qualities that arise with the body, the embodied one is freed from birth, death, old age and suffering, and enjoys the nectar of immortality.

Guṇān atītya — transcending the guṇas — this is the guṇātīta state. The guṇas belong to prakṛti, not to the Self. When this is realized, their binding power ceases.

Deha-samudbhavān — arising with the body — the guṇas constitute the psycho-physical complex. They are not ultimate realities but modifications of nature.

Amṛtam aśnute — enjoys immortality. This is not endless life but timelessness, liberation from temporal limitation. The guṇātīta is already immortal; realization reveals this truth.
