किञ्चिज्ज्ञैर्या स्मृता शुद्धिः सा शुद्धिः शम्भुदर्शने । न शुचिर्ह्यशुचिस्तस्मान्निर्विकल्पः सुखी भवेत् ॥
kiñcijjñair yā smṛtā śuddhiḥ sā śuddhiḥ śambhudarśane | na śucir hy aśucis tasmān nirvikalpaḥ sukhī bhavet ||
The purity remembered by men of little knowledge — that purity is in the vision of Śambhu. Neither pure nor impure — therefore, free of vikalpas, be happy.
Ninety-fifth dhāraṇā. Beyond pure and impure. Kiñcijjñaiḥ — those of little knowledge, who know only a little. They define purity as rituals of cleansing, dietary rules, bodily taboos. Sā śuddhiḥ śambhudarśane — true purity is in the vision of Śambhu.
Bhairava is radical here. Na śuciḥ — nothing is pure. Na aśuciḥ — nothing is impure. The categories themselves are vikalpas — mental constructions. Purity and impurity do not exist in reality. They are projections of a mind that compulsively classifies.
Nirvikalpaḥ sukhī bhavet — free of these constructions, be happy. Happiness does not require purification. It requires abandoning the categories of pure and impure. This is not moral license. It is deep understanding: before the mind labels something as pure or impure, what is it? It simply is. And that “simple being” is absolute śuddhi.
