Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 58
मुद्राणां सकलं चैवं माहात्म्यं योगिनां गतिः | मुद्रासु कुशलो योगी मृत्युं जयति निश्चितम् ||
mudrāṇāṃ sakalaṃ caivaṃ māhātmyaṃ yogināṃ gatiḥ | mudrāsu kuśalo yogī mṛtyuṃ jayati niścitam ||
Conclusion of the chapter on mudrās. Their mastery leads to the conquest of death — not only literally but in the sense of transcending fear and limitation.
“Skilled in the mudrās” (mudrāsu kuśalaḥ) means not only knowing them technically but practicing them with appropriate subtlety. Skill comes from repetition and attention.
The chapter closes with the implicit transition to the next: having sealed energy with mudrās, one can now work with prāṇa directly through prāṇāyāma.
