Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 50

बहुधा केचिदिच्छन्ति विस्तरेण पृथक् शृणु । अहिंसा सत्यमस्तेयं ब्रह्मचर्यं दयार्जवम् ॥

bahudhā kecidicchanti vistareṇa pṛthak śṛṇu | ahiṃsā satyamasteyaṃ brahmacaryaṃ dayārjavam ||

The detailed exposition of yamas begins: ahiṃsā (non-violence), satya (truthfulness), asteya (non-stealing), brahmacarya (celibacy/moderation), dayā (compassion), ārjavam (straightforwardness). The instruction vistareṇa pṛthak śṛṇu — listen separately in detail — signals a systematic elaboration. These yamas form the ethical foundation without which higher practice is impossible.
