Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 10
yājñavalkya uvāca - uttiṣṭhottiṣṭha bhadraṃ te gārgī brahmavidāṃ vare | vakṣyāmi yogasarvasvaṃ brahmaṇā kīrtitaṃ purā ||
Yājñavalkya’s response begins with the urgent double imperative uttiṣṭhottiṣṭha — rise, rise! — an unusual address to a woman prostrate before him. This immediate elevation of Gārgī signals that the teaching demands her full, upright presence. He addresses her as brahmavidāṃ vare — best among knowers of Brahman — recognizing her spiritual qualification. The phrase yogasarvasvaṃ — the entirety of yoga — and its origin from Brahman himself establishes the supreme authority and completeness of what follows.
