प्राणस्येदं वशे सर्वं त्रिदिवे यत्प्रतिष्ठितम् मातेव पुत्रान्रक्षस्व श्रीश्च प्रज्ञां च विधेहि न इति
prāṇasyedaṃ vaśe sarvaṃ tridive yatpratiṣṭhitam māteva putrānrakṣasva śrīśca prajñāṃ ca vidhehi na iti
Whatever is established in the three heavens is under the control of Prāṇa. Protect us like a mother her children; grant us prosperity and wisdom.
The prāṇa-stuti (hymn to Prāṇa) concludes. Tridiva — the three heavens, the three worlds (loka): the terrestrial, the intermediate, and the celestial. Everything, at all levels of existence, is under the vaśa (control) of Prāṇa.
The supplication is triple:
- Rakṣasva — protect us, like a mother (mātā) protects her children (putrān). Prāṇa is the maternal principle that nourishes and sustains.
- Śrīḥ — prosperity, abundance, beauty. May spiritual and material wealth flow.
- Prajñā — wisdom, discernment, knowledge of the Self.
Vidhehi na — “grant us.” May they manifest in us.
This complete hymn is a profound teaching about the nature of prāṇa. For the yogī, it is invocation and recognition. When practicing prāṇāyāma, we remember that it is not “my” breath, but the cosmic power that animates everything. Control of prāṇa is the key to health, longevity and liberation.
