Yogi
conceptoPractitioner of yoga. From the root yuj (to unite), the yogi is one who has united with ultimate reality. In classical texts, it denotes a committed practitioner — not a beginner but someone advanced on the path.
In the Haṭha Pradīpikā, the perfected yogi (siddha-yogi) has mastered prāṇa and kuṇḍalinī. In the Bhagavad Gītā, Kṛṣṇa defines the yogi as equanimous (samatva), not as an extreme ascetic. See yoga, siddha, yukta.
